Spread Magazine — Ocean Pollution
Graphic Design · Editorial Design · Digital Illustration · 2023
This editorial spread was developed as part of a university assignment focused on magazine design. The theme I chose was ocean pollution, aiming to combine impactful visuals with informative content. The final result is a two-page magazine layout including a digitally illustrated scene and an original article discussing the effects of plastic waste in marine ecosystems.
The Challenge
The challenge was to create a cohesive and engaging magazine layout that balanced strong visual storytelling with clear editorial structure. It required careful planning of space, typography, and alignment between illustration and text to deliver both clarity and impact in a double-page spread.
My Role & Contributions
I was responsible for the entire creative and editorial process:
Concept development and research
Article writing and data curation
Digital illustration of the underwater scene
Magazine layout and visual composition
Programs Used
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Project Theme: Ocean Pollution
Concept: A significant portion of products used by humans ends up in the ocean, leading to the death of countless marine animals that ingest waste or become entangled in it. My concept was to portray several people observing this pollution. The aquarium represents the ocean, filled with marine animals surrounded by trash. Dead coral reefs, fish skeletons, and more waste at the bottom illustrate the severe environmental damage.
